I believe most of us in Alaska appreciate an occasional warm up in the winter.  It's nice to get a break from the cold.

You've heard the adage, "too much of a good thing."  This is the part we don't appreciate.

A surge of even warmer air is headed for the state this weekend.  Beginning in Southwest Saturday morning and progressing through the state Sunday, a strong upper level jet will steer abundant subtropical moisture and above-freezing temperatures into all of southern Alaska.  As a result, mixed precipitation are likely.

Here is a timeline for Anchorage and Southcentral:

Today and tonight- light rain, snow, drizzle, freezing rain and freezing drizzle all possible.  Highs in the mid 30s.

Saturday to AM Sunday- Snow mixing in early Saturday then periods of rain likely.  Highs in the mid 40s.  Becoming very windy along Turnagain Arm and the Upper Hillside.

PM Sunday to AM Monday- colder air slowly wraps around low, winds ease up, and snow becomes likely.  Temperatures in the mid 20s to lower 30s.

In addition, watches and advisories abound over the Interior and the west as this storm approaches.  Much of the state will see advisories, watches and warnings issued over the next 36 hours.  You can see a list of them and much more at ktuu.com/weather.
