Since the beginning of the month, Anchorage has recorded only one snow-free day. This unusually snowy pattern is shifting toward a more prolonged, dry pattern.
An upper trough will deepen as it moves over the state. Within the base of this trough, a weak low will move over far southern Alaska and into Southeast. Rain and snow will continue over the Panhandle with several more inches today around the Inner Channels.
Snow in Southcentral will be found over the Kenai Peninsula, in particular Kachemak Bey. Gradually this evening and tonight, snow will develop in PWS and, perhaps, Anchorage and the Valley, but accumulations will remain light.
For the rest of the state, clear and cold will be the rule through the week. A large ridge of high pressure will build in from Russia over the next 24-48 hours. Dry, cold weather is expected for the West, Interior, and Southcentral by tomorrow.
Temps may be as cold as -40 in the Interior with lows down to near -15 for Anchorage's eastsides.
Settle in for the coldest air of the season. A least we get a break from the snow!
