A lull in the weather can be expected most of the day in Southcentral today, as one low pressure disturbance heads east into Canada and another moves through the Aleutians. A few burst of snow are possible early in the Valley and throughout PWS before skies partially clear and slightly cooler and more stable air works in from the Southwest.
This lull will be short-lived. A rich flow of moisture and warmer air will ride a strong jet through the Alaska Peninsula, Kodiak Island, and the Kenai Peninsula bringing rain, snow, gusty winds, and balmy winter temperatures. The warmest air should stay to our south in Anchorage, but highs near freezing are still likely with light precipitation later tonight and tomorrow.
Southeast will see heavy rain come to an end this morning as the jet pushes east. Mostly cloudy skies and lingering snow showers for the Interior will give way to chillier temperatures and partial clearing overnight. Precipitation will start as snow around Bristol Bay, then mingle with rain, sleet, or freezing rain this afternoon and tonight.
This weekend is shaping up to be a wet and messy one. Yet another low will yank tropical moisture along a jet all the way up through the state beginning Saturday. Temperatures will likely rise above freezing in Southwest, Southcentral, Southeast, and even Interior, Alaska. Rain, snow, and freezing rain will accompany the warm temperatures.
