The Anchorage Fire Department is investigating a late night fire in East Anchorage that injured one person.

Several crews responded just before midnight Wednesday night to a home near the intersection of Fulton and Nunaka Drive.

The Senior Fire Captain Ursa Lively said when she arrived she saw the whole living room and kitchen area engulfed in flames.

“There was actually fire in the walls. It went through the sheet rock, started burning in the walls, so they're pulling the siding off around the doors and the side where there's fire in the walls,” said Captain Lively.

AFD said the sole resident was already outside the home when firefighters arrived. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Lively said the structure itself looks to be in pretty good shape, but everything in it and the walls were completely destroyed either by the flames or smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
