Police say 33-year-old Christopher Kendricks was shot multiple times in the torso. His girlfriend, 30-year-old Tricia Jedlicka has injuries to her mouth after being hit in the face.
"She had been struck with an object to the face and it actually broke off some of her teeth," said police spokesmen Lt. Dave Parker.
Two young children were in the home at the time of the invasion.
Police say the shooting was targeted, but did not name a motive. They said neighbors in the area shouldn't be worried about people randomly breaking into homes.
Still, it doesn't ease fears of many people in Mountain View.
One man who declined to be identified said, "I heard a scuffle it sounded like two men wrestling and arguing and then there was a moment of silence and then three gun shots and they were really quick it was like pow pow pow!"
Jedlicka was released from the hospital and Kendricks is in critical condition after surgery Monday morning.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Mark Huelskoetter at 786-8872 or CrimeStoppers at 561-STOP.
