Anchorage police have arrested a cab driver suspected of sexually assaulting a passenger in his cab Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded shortly before 2:30 p.m. to a call at 1800 Ship Ave. placed by passing motorist Bradley Orr, who had been flagged down by a woman who was holding her pants in her hand. The woman told Orr she had been assaulted by Yellow Cab driver Chidiebere Nwokorie, 43, who pulled up while she and Orr were awaiting officers’ arrival.

When Nwokorie approached the two, Orr -- who had been headed home from a trip to a shooting range -- retrieved a pistol from his back seat and held him until APD showed up. According to the victim, Nwokorie offered her a ride home in his personal vehicle, then sexually assaulted her in the cab while it was parked in a cab service yard on Ship Avenue.

After an investigation by APD Special Victims Unit detectives, Nwokorie was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual assault and attempted sexual assault, as well as second-degree sexual assault. He was released Sunday after posting bail, which was set at $5,000.

Investigators believe Nwokorie may have had other victims, and are asking anyone with information about them to call APD at 786-8900.
