In Chugiak, fire crews fought a blaze that began at about 6:30 a.m. on the 19000 block of Baidarka St on Sunday.
The Chugiak Volunteer Fire Deparment responded to a call of a structure fire and upon arrival found that about 30 percent of the home was engulfed in flames.
Chugiak Fire Cheif Tom Reinbolt says no one was in the home at the time because it was undergoing construction. The owner was living in the house next door, which was also threatened by extreme heat of the fire.
The blaze was brought under control by about 7:15 a.m. and the home was determined to be a total loss.
Cheif Reinbolt says they requested the assistance of Anchorage Fire Department and Engine 11 arrived to the scene but was shortly put back in service.
AFD did leave a tanker to supply Chugiak Fire with water since the rural area had no fire hydrants.
