FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska -- A Fort Richardson soldier from New York has been killed in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Alaska officials say Pfc. Patrick A. Devoe II, from Auburn, N.Y., was killed Sunday by a roadside bomb in Kandau Kalay.

The 27-year-old Devoe joined the Army in January 2008. He was assigned last July to the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at the Anchorage base.

The Army says next of kin have been notified.
