The city's elections office wants to remind Anchorage residents to register to vote before the deadline on Sunday, March 4.
Voters must be 18 years old on Election Day, Apr. 3 in order for votes to count. This election voters will pick a mayor, and decide on eight ballot propositions.
"Mayoral elections have a little bit higher turnout," Deputy Clerk Jacqueline Duke said. "And there is Prop 5, which is your equal rights prop, which is going to probably bring out more people too."
Municipal code requires voters to be registered, with their current address, 30 days prior to the election. The city encourages people to update their registration and vote in their precinct.
Absentee voting is available by mail, fax and in person, with help available for those with special needs.
Applications for absentee voting by mail and fax can be printed directly from the Municipal Elections website, www.muni.org/elections or one can be mailed to you by requesting via phone or email.
In Person and Early Voting begins March 19, 2012 at City Hall and the Loussac Library and at the Chugiak Senior Center, March 26, 2012.
On Election Day absentee and in person voting will be conducted at the South Terminal of the Anchorage International Airport and at the UAA Student Center and no longer at the previous locations.
