The Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission says nine of the state's 11 whaling communities participated in this spring's subsistence whaling season, landing 33 whales and striking but losing 15 more. Cool weather is keeping ice safe enough to hunt from in Point Hope and Wainwright, where the hunt is expected to continue for another week.
